The Montessori Philosophy

The Montessori Philosophy

The Montessori Philosophy was designed of Maria’s work with abnormal and normal children at the Orthophrenic clinic which allowed her to embark on new and amazing discoveries to how children learn and be guided. The Montessori philosophy stands on these principles:

  • A teacher's goal is to enlighten, to guide, and to awaken something that is a sleep inside of the child. To allow the secret of childhood to unravel.

  • Grading a child’s work does not motivate them to learn.

  • The teacher should use mistakes as a learning tool. Mistakes are opportunities to learn.

  • When the work is appropriate for the child, it will nourish the spirit rather than exhaust the child.

  • The nature of the human mind/being is to work and know, and to take in much information.

  • The work must be done by the learner. We cannot teach the child to work, they have to experience the work themselves.

Maria discovered that her theory worked. Her method was a great success, and was known to be ingenious for all children.
